A Brisbane landmark known for its distinctive blue glass façade—a colour that has become synonymous with its identity. When several panels required replacement, True Blue Glass was re-engaged by the client in 2025 for an expanded refurbishment.

This time, we were tasked with an unusual challenge: the original glass colour was no longer in production. Rather than settle for second-best, our team found a way to preserve the tower’s character while delivering high-quality results.

The Challenge
The building’s façade features custom blue glass that’s no longer manufactured. When a few panels needed replacing in 2017, even a minimal 10% colour variance was immediately obvious to the public. Our client needed a solution that respected the original design, met modern safety and performance standards, and maintained visual consistency.

Given the complexity of the work, including difficult access requirements, inductions, BMU training, and compliance with high-rise safety protocols, skills and attention to detail were critical.

Think Outside of The Box
True Blue Glass took a bold, unconventional route. We carefully split the original double-glazed units, salvaging the iconic blue outer panes. These were then bonded to new secondary glass layers to create updated DGUs (double-glazed units) that preserved the original look while offering improved performance.

It’s a meticulous and labour-intensive method—but our skilled glaziers delivered the process flawlessly. While we shared a few laughs about “accidentally breaking a pane,” every step was carried out with extreme care, ensuring the legacy glass was protected and reused.

Why Clients Trust Us
When asked why they returned to us, the answer was simple: True Blue Glass knew the building, understood the challenges, and had already proven we could do what others wouldn’t attempt back in 2017. It’s not about cutting corners; it’s about using experience and creativity to deliver a result others couldn’t.

Operation Manager Susie, who now leads the glazing admin team at True Blue Glass, has overseen this complex job with precision, coordinating logistics, team scheduling, and communication with the site’s stakeholders.

“Working on this project has been a brilliant reminder of what our team is capable of. Every person involved brought their A-game, navigating a highly complex brief with precision. I’m proud to lead a team that thrives on problem-solving and supports each other every step of the way.

A special shoutout to Serena, our dedicated Health and Safety Manager, whose leadership in developing the site-specific safety management plan and SWMS ensured everyone could work safely and efficiently throughout the project.”
