Can I put wired glass back into my Shower screen?

As implied by its name, wired glass consists of glass containing a welded wire mesh at its centre.

While the impact resistance of wired glass has little difference to that of standard glass, the wire mesh serves to hold the broken pieces together in the case of smashing or rupture.

Its role in these contexts has since been largely superseded by laminated glass, which is a considered a preferable option.

But isn’t wired glass safety glass?

Wired glass is considered to be a Grade B safety glass and is still considered legal, which there is much debate about.

Wired glass suffers from a severe shortcoming in the form of its heightened susceptibility to breaking upon impact.

While the wire mesh serves to keep the glass fragments in place after smashing, it also serves as a structural discontinuity which makes the glazing weaker than plain glass of commensurate thickness.

A barrage of evidence has since emerged indicating that this weakness makes wired glass a serious hazard to human safety in the case of impact due to the severe injuries the wiring – in tandem with the fractured glass – can cause.

Will True Blue Glass put wire glass back in for me?

Unfortunately no. True Blue Glass will not use wired glass, as there is now cheaper and safer alternatives out there.

Can you remove our old existing shower?

Of course, as part of our quote we will usually include the cost of removing your old shower screen and disposing for you.

Can I choose the colour?

At True Blue Glass we have a number of different shower frame colours for you to choose from or we can try and match the colour of the frame that was being removed.

Can I only choose clear glass?

Not at all! You can put an obscure piece of glass in for that added privacy while in the shower.
